Mable House Amphitheatre Will Change Name

MABLETON, GA (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — The Mable House Amphitheatre will cease to exist Friday night, when it will become the Barnes Mable House Amphitheatre.

The name change, to honor former Gov. Roy Barnes, will take place before the Patty Loveless concert at a special meeting of the Cobb County Commission on the amphitheater stage, according to Bob Ash, director of the Cobb Public Services Agency.

"Construction of the amphitheater was due almost entirely to Governor Barnes," Ash said.

Mableton officials had tried for several years to raise money to build an amphitheater in south Cobb County but were not able to raise enough, Ash said. Shortly after he was elected in 1998, Barnes, who grew up in Mableton, asked county officials to put together a plan for construction. He then obtained $6 million in state funding for the facility on Floyd Road. The county spent another $1 million, Ash said.

Construction began in 2001, and the amphitheater opened in 2002.

After the commissioners vote Friday night, they will unveil a new Barnes Mable House Amphitheatre logo, Ash said.
